Conservation Issues
Volunteering with the Grand Canyon Protection Campaign
The Grand Canyon Protection Campaign strives to get you involved in issues affecting the Grand Canyon eco-region through on the ground service projects, educational events, activism, and activist trainings. These are just some opportunities for 2009:
- Service Trips and Hikes at the Grand Canyon National Park such as trail work and invasive plant removal. Family opportunities as well!
- Trail Work at Hualapai and Hopi – Multi-day projects at Hualapai building trails off Diamond Creek Road and single day projects at Hopi in preparation for the Annual Hopi Water is Life (Paatuwaqatsi) Run.
- Tabling and Event Planning – We could always use help tabling at events as well as your ideas for public presentations and events!
- Youth Outreach – Help us get more kids outside and start a new ICO group for the Flagstaff area. www.sierraclub.org/ico
- Protect and Restore Northern Arizona Forests – We need your help to ensure that the forest service implements the strongest protections possible for the Coconino and Kaibab Forests in the forest planning process and travel management revision, which aims to reign in off-road vehicles. Share knowledge of your favorite places that you believe need special protection. There will be various trainings throughout the year.
